ALASKA Part II (Coldfoot-Deadhorse-Prudhoe Bay)

So, after seeing a good chunk of Alaska with the gang, three of us would trek on to Prudhoe Bay and finally reach the Arctic Ocean!

The day before setting out for Prudhoe.

The guy at the end of the table is Carl, an Englishman we met along the way. His riding partner bailed on him, so we invited him to join us for the ride.  He happily accepted and we all had a great time.

Finally made it onto the Dalton Highway

Crossing over the line!

Coldfoot Camp (the halfway point to Prudhoe)

Smuggled in Negronis

On to Prudhoe

We made it!

A typical oilfield camp compound

Our room was pretty nice

We saw this grizzly across the road from our oil camp.  We saw him roaming around a few times.

I even caught a rare glimpse of these muskox

The Arctic Ocean, finally...

You're supposed to jump in the water the first time you visit the Arctic Ocean, but we wimped out and only waded in--it was super cold.

Einar, however, being the crazy Norwegian he is, jumped in!

Porky made it to the Arctic too.

49th State Brewing in Healy, AK

49th State Brewing has the movie prop bus from Into the Wild, so Einar
had to pose like Chris McCandless

Curt got stuck on this little incline

Just after parting ways in Healy, I got a call from Curt.  He had a hole
in his radiator, so I turned around, picked him up and he made an
unplanned trip back to Anchorage to wait for a new radiator.

We had driven for over three weeks and this was the first and only breakdown.  Luckily, the chase truck came in handy after all.

After getting Curt set up at the motorcycle shop, we parted ways.  I was flying back to the lower 48 the next day and Curt and Einar were riding back to Reno.

This was the hostel I stayed in the night before I left.
It was sketchy with a capital S, but it was cheap, so what the hell.
